Andy Warhol Pop Art Wrappers
The curriculum encourages students to explore at least 6 artists a year, including a Georgia artist. In keeping with this theme, we begin our first big project by studying Pop Art and Andy Warhol. Students will view examples of Andy Warhol’s artwork (click on the artwork below to see the Warhol powerpoint the students viewed) and participate in class discussions about how we can tell if his artwork is realistic or abstract and how he uses color, value, texture, and form. After viewing the artworks, participating in class discussions, and participating in various class activities, students will create an individual project inspired by Andy Warhol’s popular food items. By the end of the project, students will be able to explain what Pop Art is, justify why or why not Andy Warhol should be considered a Pop artist, create a contour line drawing, explain how drawing from observation makes things look more realistic, be able to identify and use complimentary, analogous, monochromatic, and warm and cool colors, and understand, explain, and create different points of view.
