Paul Klee Inspired Cityscapes
Ocee's First Graders started their year off right by viewing Paul Klee's abstract cityscapes. As a class, we discuss what a cityscape is and what some of the distinguishing characteristics are of Paul Klee's cityscapes. Once students understand what a cityscape is and how to create one, and understand how Klee creates his, they have a chance to create their own using stacked geometric shapes. Geometric shapes are shapes that have names like circles, squares, triangles, etc. Once finished, we discuss parts of landscapes like the sky (background) and the ground (foreground) and students add those in as well. First Graders color their buildings with crayon and then paint their skies creating a crayon resist. Instant masterpieces!
