Georgia O'Keeffe Inspired Plant, Leaf, or Flower Drawing
The curriculum encourages students to explore at least 6 artists a year, including a Georgia artist. In keeping with this theme, we begin our first big project by studying Georgia O’Keeffe’s plant, leaf, and flower paintings (click the painting below to view the powerpoint students viewed). Students will view examples of Georgia O’Keeffe’s artwork and participate in class discussions about how she uses color, color schemes, shapes, value, and composition to create interesting works of art. After viewing the artworks, participating in class discussions, and participating in various class activities, students will create an individual project inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s plant, leaf, and flower artworks. By the end of the project, students will be able to explain how O’Keeffe uses composition creatively, use some of her techniques in their own work, explain what a contour line drawing is, create a contour line drawing in their artwork, use multiple color schemes we have talked about in their own artwork, create value using lines, explain what value is, and evaluate their own artwork.
