Picasso Inspired Musical Instrument Collages
The curriculum encourages students to explore at least 6 artists a year, including a Georgia artist. In keeping with this theme, we begin our first big project by studying Pablo Picasso’s artwork. Students will view examples of Pablo Picasso’s artwork (click on the artwork below to view the artworks your students did) created throughout his life and participate in class discussions about how he uses color, color schemes, shapes, value, and collage to create interesting artwork about musical instruments. After viewing artwork, participating in class discussions, and participating in various class activities, students will create an individual project inspired by Pablo Picasso’s musical instrument artworks. By the end of the project, students will be able to explain what a collage is and how to create one, how to create a mood/ emotion using color, what drawing from observation is and why artists draw from observation, how to create value using tints and shades, and will compare and contrast paintings and collages.
